What Is Life Coaching?

Life coaching is a powerful way for you to make important changes in your life through a coaching relationship.

It can address every part of your life including:

• relationships
• work & career
• health
• finances
• environment
• family
• leisure

Your coach will be totally committed to your cause - listening to you, encouraging you, challenging you, giving you honest feedback and holding you accountable, all in order to help you achieve the changes you want to make in your life.

How Does Life Coaching Work?
Life coaching takes the form of regular meetings or phone calls with your coach, three or four times a month, called coaching sessions.

The agenda for each session is set by you, the client. It may concern any area of your life.

Your coach will help you to explore the issues and support and encourage you to make the changes you want.

At the end of each session, you agree to commit to ‘do’ something different, or ‘be’ different. At the next session, you review your progress with your coach. In this way, you will find that you are steadily moving towards being the person you want to be, doing the things you want to do.

Your coach is there for you - not to tell you what to do, but to listen to what you are really saying, ask the right questions and help you to discover the way forward for yourself. Coaching can involve making mistakes, confronting the real you, putting your preconceptions to one side, taking risks and trying things you haven’t done before - but you will discover you have the resources within you already to achieve all of this.

Life coaching is confidential and you are in control of the areas of your life you wish to talk about.

What Can Life Coaching Do For You?
As the client, you decide the issues you want to be coached on, but here are some examples of how coaching can help improve your life:

Coaching helps you to :

• Identify the values that are important to you in life and learn to honour them
• Gain confidence
• Learn how much personal strength you have and realise how resourceful you are
• Make time for the things you want to do and stop doing the things you don’t
• Challenge the negative preconceptions you have and stop limiting yourself
• Make changes for the better in your personal life and career
• Create better relationships with friends, family and partner
• Improve health and fitness
• Achieve better balance in your life
• Become the person you want to be!

Why not try the Wheel of Life Test to see how balanced your life is at the moment?

How Does Coaching Differ From Mentoring & Counselling?
Coaching differs from mentoring in that the coach is not someone who is already an expert in the area you wish to develop in, who will tell you what to do or advise you to take a particular course of action. Coaching works on the basis that you as the client are creative, resourceful and whole, and you have all the answers within you already. The job of the coach is to help you to discover the answers, by listening, questioning, clarifying and above all, keeping you focussed on the issue in hand! You set the agenda and you decide what changes you are going to make.

Coaching is not the same as counselling. It is a vehicle for changing your future, not reviewing your past.

How Balanced is Your Life At The Moment? - Take The Test!
The Wheel of Life

Here’s what to do: Print this page. The eight Sections in the Wheel represent Balance in your life.

Score each one from 0 (low) to 10 (high). The centre of the wheel represents 0 and the outer edges 10.

Mark your level of satisfaction with each life area by drawing a straight or curved line across the segment to correspond with your score, thus creating a new outer edge.

The new perimeter represents the wheel of your life. If this were a real wheel, how bumpy would the ride be?

If your wheel looks bumpy and you want to change this, contact UP! for coaching to bring balance back into your life!
